TURTLE 'S ENCOUNTER

Sea turtles live a long time. According to SeaWorld.org, sea turtles live at least 80 years, maybe longer. The one in this story is 100 years old.


This Mandarin joke depends on the double meaning of the word 龍 / 龙 (lóng). On its own, long means “dragon”, but it also forms part of other words, which we will see in the explanation below the joke.

一只小海龟在海中游泳，在水面碰到一个从来

没有见过的东西，感觉十分新奇，便向前

问："你是什么东西啊？"



这个东西回答说："我是龙！" 说完便幽然地漂

离开了。


经过了一百年，小海龟已成了大海龟，在海面

上，他又碰到了这一百年前的老朋友，让他惊

奇的是，自己从小海龟变成了大海龟，可是这

龙的形体却一点也没有改变！


海龟自以为是世界最长寿的动物，此刻却碰到

了更厉害的角色，心里很不是滋味的问道："你

到底是什么龙啊，为何都不会改变，也不会衰

老？"
